Steven: Talented Local Artist with Vision Loss Impacting His Work Gets Help from Lighthouse
Steven Dahlstrom is a talented local artist, but his increasing vision loss made it slow and frustrating to paint. He contacted the Lighthouse for help.
A Lighthouse occupational therapist who specializes in low vision conducted a lighting and magnification assessment. She recommended various devices and encouraged Steven to trial them through the Lighthouse library. She also helped Steven learn how to operate cooking appliances more safely, connected him to free large print books through the state of Minnesota, and taught him techniques for using the computer with low vision.
Steven is now joyfully painting again, while also living more safely and independently in his home.
Steven’s stunning painting of a tree is just one example of how Lighthouse services are empowering the gift of human expression.
