Karl's Story: A Young Man That Enjoys Travel, the Outdoors and Family aided by the Lighthouse

Karl is a young man who enjoys travel and being outdoors with his family. Due to a car accident when he was a child, Karl has limited mobility and a seizure disorder. As he got older, it became more difficult for him to participate in outdoor activities with his family.

Karl's family and social worker reached out to Lighthouse for help. Lighthouse Assistive Technology Professionals visited his home and recommended an array of specialized equipment. The adaptive adult stroller, along with skis for the stroller in the winter, and a portable Hoyer lift, now allow the family to travel and play outside together year-round. Monitoring equipment notifies Karl's parents if Karl were to have a seizure - allowing the whole family more peace of mind. This new equipment is also empowering Karl to explore career possibilities as an accessible travel writer and a wooden sign maker.
